The loggerhead sea turtle, Caretta caretta, is a species of oceanic turtle distributed throughout the world. It inhabits the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans and the Mediterranean Sea. Caretta caretta has distinguishing reddish-brown carapace for both adults and sub-adults. Hatchlings and juvenile turtles have blunt spines on the carapace scutes which forms 3 longitudinal keels that disappear during the juvenile stage. Caretta caretta has most recently been assessed for The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species in 2015 and listed as Vulnerable under criteria A2b. This turtle was drawn by Hanwen KANG and Timan YANG.
