The oriental fire-bellied toad (Bombina orientalis) is a small semiaquatic frog species found in northeastern Asia, with typical male-biased sex ratio and male-biased dispersal mode. About 100 years ago, the Chinese herpetologist Chengzhao LIU (1900–1976) introduced approximately 200 individuals from Yantai, Shandong Province to Beijing and released some of them in a stream near the Xiangshan Wofo Temple. The male-specific shifts in age and morphological traits of the introduced oriental fire-bellied toads in the Beijing population compared with the native Yantai population were reported by Tianyi QI et al. in this issue. This toad was drawn by Hanwen KANG and Timan YANG.
