The Yunnan lake newt, Hypselotriton wolterstorffi, is an extinct species of newt in the family Salamandridae. It was only found near the Dianchi Lake in Kunming, Yunnan, China. It was found in shallow lake waters and adjacent freshwater habitats. Despite extensive surveys, it has not been seen since 1979, and is therefore considered extinct. The reasons for its extinction are believed to be habitat loss, pollution, and introduced species. At present, the Herpetological Museum of the Chengdu Institute of Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences has preserved over 70 specimens of Hypselotriton wolterstorffi, which is of great significance for the study of this species and its relative species. This newt was drawn by Hanwen KANG and Timan YANG.
