The thorny devil (Moloch horridus) is a species of lizard in the family Agamidae, which is the sole species in the genus Moloch. It is covered in thorny spines and sports a spiny “false head” on the back of its neck, which is thought to warn off predators. The species is endemic to Australia living in sand plain and sand ridge deserts and in mallee scrub on sandy soils. Moloch horridus has most recently been assessed for The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species in 2017 and listed as Least Concern. This lizard was drawn by Hanwen KANG and Timan YANG.
