Generation of low-cost and high-quality optical vortices with gradual-width Fermat spiral mask

Abstract

Optical vortex beams carrying orbital angular momentum with an extra degree of freedom of light manipulation have found extensive significant applications in various areas. Therefore, how to improve the quality of beams and reduce the production cost is an interesting issue for the optics and photonics community at large. A new Fermat spiral slit structure with gradual width is proposed by combining traditional Fermat spiral slit with the wavelet superposition principle. A high-quality optical vortex beam can be generated at low cost by printing the gradual width Fermat spiral slit on a transparent paper.
