New approach for chiral metasurface: spin decoupling and interference

Abstract

Chiral materials exhibit different interactions with the incident left-handed circularly polarized (LCP) and right-handed circularly polarized (RCP) waves, showing as circular dichroism and optical activity. Specially designed two-dimensional and three-dimensional chiral metamaterials exhibit much greater chiral responses than natural materials. Recently, a novel kind of all-silicon chiral metasurfaces is proposed by introducing destructive interference between achiral meta-atoms. Based on the principle of spin-decoupling, the generation of efficient circular dichroism and chiral wavefront modulation have been demonstrated. It is believed that this flexible and efficient implementation solution of chiral metasurface can bring new ideas to the development of chiral devices in the future.
